Il contendente colombiano, ALVAREZ, ha messo al tappeto SERGEY KOVALEV ben tre volte nel 7° round lo scorso sabato sera, un risultato imprevisto per così vincere il titolo dei Pesi Massimi Leggeri WBO. Spettacolare vittoria di ELEIDER ALVAREZ.

Una volta invincibile il russo SERGEY KOVALEV, ma WARD gli ha preso l’anima, strappato il cuore.

Non intendo togliere nulla ad ALVAREZ, ma KOVALEV ha mostrato che i suoi giorni migliori sono passati.

Sulla carta non c’erano dubbi che ALVAREZ fosse un business facile da chiarire.

ALVAREZ era solo un argento WBC e il suo curriculum non ha aiutato nelle previsioni a dargli alcuna possibilità contro il russo KOVALEV. Il pronostico – questa volta non lo avevo fatto…- invece è andato comunque sottosopra!

KATHY DUVA, Promoter di KOVALEV, ha detto alla conferenza stampa del dopo combattimento, che SERGEY ha fatto un ottimo lavoro per sei round e poi ha iniziato a vacillare.

I giudici Carlos Ortiz (58-56), Joseph Pasquale (59-55) e Lynne Carter (59-55) avevano nei loro cartellini, sino  al 6° round, KOVALEV in vantaggio di almeno due round.

Il match e le carriere dei protagonisti  si sono completamente ribaltate nel settimo round, e drasticamente,  quando ALVAREZ ha messo in Knock Down KOVALEV con un destro potente e veloce alla tempia. Poi lo ha finito con una travolgente combinazione che lo ha mandato al tappeto per l’atterramento finale,  al tempo di  2′ e 45″ del 7°round. 

E così il colombiano, ALVAREZ vince il titolo mondiale, la cintura  WBO.

E questa volta, SERGEY KOVALEV,  non può incolpare l’avversario di colpi bassi o di male arbitraggio. Congratulazioni ad ALVAREZ.

KOVALEV  ha dominato il match fino a quando non è stato catturato con quello sfortunato colpo alla tempia. Una volta che l’ equilibrio è minato, impossibile riprenderlo.

Mi sono appassionata in questi anni alla carriera di   SERGEY KOVALEV, e in ultimo vederlo combattere vs ANDRE WARD nel loro primo incontro, una battaglia che ha vinto e bene, che invece lo ha privato di ben 3 titoli mondiali; poi il secondo combattimento, a giugno dell’anno scorso, un altro match dal risultato non cristallino, con quei colpi bassi…di ANDRE WARD!

Sabato sera scorso, per fortuna non c’era nulla di discutibile, è stata una perdita schiacciante.

Questa è la prima vera sconfitta di KOVALEV. La mia reazione immediata dopo il knock out è che KOVALEV deve chiudere qui la sua carriera, a 35 anni va bene così.

Quando era nel suo ruolo di KRUSHER, il migliore, un vero artista del KO, è stato e ha dato grandi emozioni a tutta la boxe. Un eccellente Fighter.

I had a feeling it was going to be an upset. A gut feeling.

Colombian contender knocked down SERGEY KOVALEV three times in the seventh round Saturday night and pulled off an upset by knocking out the Russian knockout artist to win the WBO light heavyweight title. Spectacular winning by Colombian ELEIDER ALVAREZ.

Once invicible SERGEY KOVALEV. WARD took KRUSHERs soul, broke his heart!

I don’t mean to take anything away from ALVAREZ, but KOVALEV showed his best days are past.

On the paper there were no doubt that ALVAREZ  was a easy business to clear up. ALVAREZ  was just WBC silver and his resumè didn’t help to give him any chance vs the Russian KOVALEV. Instead the table went upsidedown…

KATHY DUVA- KOVALEV Promoter, said at the post fight press conference, SERGEY did great for six rounds and then he started to falter.

Judges Carlos Ortiz (58-56), Joseph Pasquale (59-55) and Lynne Carter (59-55) each had Kovalev in front by at least two rounds through the sixth.

The fight and their careers completely changed in the seventh round, changed dramatically when ALVAREZ badly hurt and dropped KOVALEV with a clean right hand to the head.

ALVAREZ hit KOVALEV with a powerful combination that sent him to the canvas for the final knockdown of the fight at 2:45 of the seventh to give the Colombian his first world title, the WBO Belt.

And KOVALEV can’t blame it on low blows or the ref this time.

Congrats to ALVAREZ. KOVALEV dominated the fight until he got caught with that one unlucky temple shot. Once your equilibrium is knocked off, there’s no coming back from it.

I admired SERGEY KOVALEV, I followed his ehy years, then to see him fight ANDRE WARD in their first fight, a fight he won, so the second fight, even his record says he lost…

Saturady there was nothing questionable about this crushing loss.

This is KOVALEVs first real loss. My Immediate reaction after the knock out is that Kovalev best days are past,  he has to close here is careear, at 35 years old its enough.

When he was the KRUSHER in that role, a KO artist, he was exciting, for all of boxing. He was excellent Fighter.
