PACQUIAO vs UGAS, domani sera, 21 agosto al T-Mobile Arena di Las Vegas.
Durante una visita medica pre-combattimento da parte della Commissione Atletica del Nevada, ERROL SPENCE ha scoperto di avere una retina staccata. L’americano di Long Island, non potrà dunque affrontare MANNY PACQUIAO sul ring di Las Vegas, questa è notizia dello scorso 9 agosto.
PACQUIAO ha rincuorato: “Grazie a Dio l’esame oculistico ha scoperto la sua condizione prima di subire ulteriori danni. Ho accettato di combattere contro YORDENIS UGAS il 21 agosto per la Cintura WBA dei Pesi Welter. E Il modo giusto e l’unico modo per vincere un titolo mondiale è dentro il ring”.
MANNY PACQUIAO del lontano Oriente, le Filippine, l’Imperatore della Boxe, regna ormai da oltre 25 anni, e da sempre lezioni di profonda umanità.
Alcuni media hanno malignato che il distaccamento della retina di SPENCE è stata una scusa per evitare l’umiliazione che la Leggenda PACQUIAO avrebbe potuto lui infliggere.
Possiamo invece un po’ preoccuparci che i nostri atleti siano davvero sempre al top della forma, con delle semplici misure precauzionali, dal momento che rischiano la vita?
Lo si fa in tutti gli sport più o meno pericolosi, il pugilato è forse il più pericoloso con la Formula Uno e le Motoracing.
E la maldicenza sulla salute, non trova terreno fertile quando si tratta di pugilato.

Il 35enne YORDENIS UGAS (26-4, 12 KO) si è affermato come Peso Welter d’élite vincendo la cintura WBA vs ABEL RAMOS lo scorso settembre 2020.
UGAS, è di Santiago, Cuba e ora vive a Miami, in Florida. Dopo otto vittorie consecutive perde in una manciata di cent il verdetto vs l’americano SHAWN PORTER nel match per il titolo mondiale WBC nel marzo 2019.
UGAS è stato medaglia di bronzo Olimpica a Beijing 2008 nei Pesi Leggeri.
Si allena a Las Vegas ed ha inanellato vittorie sugli allora imbattuti avversari Jamal James, Omar Figueroa Jr. e Bryant Perrella, oltre ai veterani Thomas Dulorme e Ray Robinson.
Non è insomma un rimpiazzo da poco.
UGAS è un pugile solido e appare molto determinato.
UGAS difenderà il suo titolo Pesi Welter WBA, che PACQUIAO aveva già vinto vs KEITH THURMAN nel suo ultimo combattimento nel luglio 2019…
E qui so che pensate io abbia sbagliato a scrivere…No. É sbagliato che PACQUIAO combatta per la stessa sigla che ha già vinto, la WBA dei Pesi Welter! E senza pudore la sigla WBA gli chieda il 3% della borsa…che nel contratto prevede il minimo, ma tutti sappiamo che sono molto di più i milioni in ballo la prossima notte. Il PPV con la “STAR” PACQUAIO tocca l’apice, e così salgono i milioni di incasso.
Ma perché portar via danaro al Campione, succhiargli sino all’ultimo ogni guadagno così faticato, anche se si tratta solo del 3% di una borsa dichiarata al minimo di 5 milioni di dollari?
PACQUIAO che mai ha disputato match farsa, tanto per intenderci vedi l’ultimo Mayweather vs Logan, che qualcuno insistentemente voleva far passare per evento sportivo invece che puro intrattenimento circense…
E perché nella boxe ci così tante cinture?
Perché gli organizzatori più potenti sin dagli anni ’80, vedi DON KING, e BOB ARUM e altri compagni furono felici di mantenere i titoli dell’alfabeto frammentati, più titoli significavano più eventi da trasmettere, ma non c’è mai stato dubbio, in ogni categoria di peso chi fosse, o chi è il vero campione lineare!
E PACQUAIO non ha bisogno di titoli, li ha conquistati tutti e in otto categorie di peso diverse dai Pesi Mosca ai Pesi Welter.
È davvero inutile questa ulteriore cintura di sigla se si considera che YORDENIS UGAS si stava proprio preparando a difendere il suo primo titolo, appunto il WBA dei Pesi Welter contro FABIAN MAIDANA nel sotto-clou di quello che doveva essere PACQUIAO vs SPENCE.
Adesso che UGAS si ritrova elevato all’evento principale contro la leggenda del pugilato, PACQUIAO, la cintura in palio non ha nemmeno per lui alcun significato, invece il match contro il magnifico filippino, è un incontro decisivo per la sua carriera.
Che insomma a 35 anni è davvero un’opportunità che lo bacia in fronte…
No, la fortuna nella boxe non esiste, se non appunto quella di avere finalmente la possibilità di confrontarsi con il meglio in assoluto.
Il guerriero se nato tale, diventa campione con il duro lavoro.
Il verdetto chiaro e netto determina che pugile sei, dagli avversari che hai incontrato sul ring.

Io so che PACQUIAO non combatte per la cintura, ma per confermare il suo nome, la sua eredità, e onorare la sua nazione. Lo conosco, l’ho visto allenarsi, combattere, e ho avuto il privilegio di conversare.
PACQUIAO da 25 anni ha confermato il suo talento, la sua boxe aggressiva, dominante, il suo atletismo spettacolare, il suo essere guerriero senza paura…, l’ultimo dei grandi Fighter! Uno dei più grandi Campioni di Boxe mai esistiti. Con o senza cintura!
La sua Boxe ricorda gli anni migliori di mio Padre. Così entusiasmante…Un Welter senza paura, così scrivevano i contemporanei di mio padre…
Io c’ero a bordo ring di quel “Dream Match” nel dicembre del 2008, tra la già Medaglia d’Oro alle Olimpiadi di Barcellona 1992, multi Campione del Mondo in sei categorie di peso, OSCAR DE LA HOYA vs MANNY PACQUAIO e vi assicuro che il TKO subito da DE LA HOYA, non ha sminuito in nessun modo il match che non aveva nessun titolo in palio…
Anzi da quel momento il match PACQUIAO vs MAYWEATHER ha iniziato a prendere quota, a far tirare il collo a tutto il mondo, perché quel match si disputasse e così avvenne dopo ben sei anni di rinvii e di dibattiti in tutto il pianeta, persino presidenti degli USA reclamarono di volere il match…
Il grande evento si materializzò il 2 maggio del 2015. Non mi sono persa un secondo di quella maratona di anni…E nemmeno quel bordo ring a Las Vegas, quel sabato notte si è disputato il match più ricco della storia della boxe, sono ballati circa 600 milioni!
Ma ancor prima nel 2008, non sminuì in nessun modo il match tra l’italo britannico JOE CALZAGHE vs i due straordinari americani, BERNARD HOPKINS e ROY JONES, nei rispettivi ring del MGM di Las Vegas e del Madison Square Garden di New York.
JOE “the Italian Dragon” CALZAGHE decise che negli ultimi due match della sua carriera, nulla più doveva agli organismi sanzionatori, appunto alle Cinture in trofeo, a cui in tutta la sua carriera tanto aveva versato…

E allora adesso che UGAS ha il suo momento di gloria al culmine, avvolto dall’entusiasmo di mettersi in discussione con il più temuto, il più abile Campione di Boxe in circolazione, MANNY PACQUIAO, alla soglia del suo 43 esimo compleanno il prossimo 17 dicembre…per UGAS è un’occasione irrepetibile.
E PACQUIAO così non ha vanificato i suoi due anni di allenamento.
Comunque vada per UGAS, avere nel proprio record MANNY PACQUIAO vuol dire che sei un combattente di rango.

YORDANIS UGAS vince via Decisione Unanime sulla Legenda MANNY PACQUIAO. Questi i cartellini dei giudici – Dave Moretti (116-112), Patricia Morse Jarman (115-113) e Steve Weisfeld (116-112)
Il cubano è stato più resistente e in condizioni fisiche migliori. Ma nulla di eccezionale.
È vero che il lo stile determina il match e dunque allenarsi per un avversario e trovarsene invece un altro è ben diverso.
PACQUIAO ha combattuto meramente da tecnico, invece che il miglior PACQUIAO quando combatteva incessante e potente martello pneumatico, e così sarebbe stato convincente a battere UGAS.
È stato esaltante vederlo combattere in quel modo, così rischioso…e infatti l’incontrista messicano JM MARQUEZ, nel 2012 lo fermò in quel decimo di secondo, nel battere del tempo tra un cazzotto e l’altro…
Si è visto chiaramente che UGAS subiva, aveva difficoltà a reagire quando MANNY tirava colpi veloci e potenti, se avesse continuato UGAS non avrebbe avuto la meglio.
Ma, le gambe di PACQUIAO non sono le stesse di un tempo.
E non l’ho visto usare tutto il suo arsenale, non ho visto i suoi soliti angoli e combinazioni e inoltre non è stato in grado di adattarsi ai colpi di UGAS.
E così devo constatare per la prima volta e da lontano dal bordo ring, e non è scusa ovviamente, ma l’età ha avuto il sopravvento sul filippino.
43 anni il prossimo 17 dicembre, lo avevo sottolineato nel mio articolo che ha preceduto il match, per ricordare quanta, tanta passione è rimasta nel cuore, nell’anima, nei pugni di questo straordinario fuoriclasse, immenso Campione!
Il tempo l’ho volutamente sottovalutato, perché MANNY PACQUIAO ci ha stupito, in tutti questi anni, match dopo match.
Caro MANNY, anche quando hai perso ti sei sempre rialzato e hai puntato ancora più in alto.
Vincere o perdere a questo punto, come lo è stato per tutti i grandi della storia, non aggiungeva nulla alla tua grandezza; ma dobbiamo accettare che c’è una fine, anche se qualcosa è rimasto nei guantoni, e ora quel soffocante nodo alla gola che attanaglia la moltitudine di fans, sono di nostalgia di un tempo che non torna più.
Il tempo vince su tutto. MANNY immenso PACQUIAO è arrivato questo dannato momento.
Il tempo è imbattuto per un motivo.
Eh tutte quelle sessioni di allenamento in cui ti sei esercitato in incredibili combinazioni di lancio, di velocità, di lavoro con i guantoni.
Vai sul ring eh… dannazione!
Non va come avevi pianificato.
I piedi non si muovono come devono.
E non riesci a districarti da quel dannato pugno dell’avversario che solo cinque anni fa avresti liquidato prima del limite con un KO!
Meno male che UGAS non aveva potenza nei suoi colpi, così hai potuto tenerlo a bada con una moltitudine di colpi così serrati, il doppio dei suoi ma non precisi. Tu nei tuoi anni d’oro, così veloce, brillante, preciso e potente mancino!
Sia chiaro che nessuno dei contemporanei, saranno immensi come lo è MANNY PACQUAIO.
Chiaro e netto, caro Campione PACQUIAO non c’è nulla più da dimostrare.
Sei una LEGGENDA. Razza rara nella boxe…
Corre insistente la voce che ti candiderai per le presidenziali del tuo paese, le Filippine la prossima primavera, contro l’attuale presidente Duterte.
Mi è più che noto il tuo grandissimo impegno civile, il tuo cuore filantropo, estremamente generoso per i più poveri tra la tua gente, non hai mai dimenticato da dove vieni.
Hai messo mano al tuo portafoglio per aiutare gli ammalati terminali, i disperati delle innumerevoli alluvioni che affliggono il tuo paese.
Hai dato man forte durante la pandemia.
Combatti la corruzione e il traffico di esseri umani.
Potresti interessare gli investitori esteri nelle Filippine. Saresti il candidato ideale per l’aiuto che hai già dimostrato di dare al tuo popolo che così ti ha riconosciuto il titolo di Senatore.
Continua a combattere per la tua gente con la tua credibilità puoi fare tantissimo, non dimentichiamo che le Filippine sono parte del terzo mondo.
E la corruzione è ai massimi poteri.
Puoi fare molto di più fuori dalla politica che dentro l’infernale palazzo…lì non esiste il fair-play come tra i combattenti del ring, persone che si rispettano.

Tomorrow night, August 21st, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas PACQUAIO vs UGAS.

And here I know that you think I was wrong in writing … No. It’s wrong that PACQUIAO is fighting for the same acronym that he has already won, the Welterweight WBA Belt!
And shamelessly the WBA acronym asks him for 3% … which in the contract provides for the minimum, but we all know that the millions at stake next Saturday night are much more. The PPV with the “Star” PACQUAIO reaches its peak, and so the millions of receipts rise.
But why take money away from the Champion, suck every earnings so hard to the last, even if it’s only 3% of a purse declared at a minimum of 5 million dollars?

I know that PACQUIAO isn’t fighting for the belt, but to confirm his name, and his legacy, and honor his nation. I know him, I have seen him train, fight, and have had the privilege of exchanging conversations.
For 25 years PACQUIAO has confirmed his talent, his aggressive, dominant boxing, his spectacular athleticism, his fearless warrior …, the last of the great Fighters! One of the greatest boxing champions ever. With or without a belt!
His boxing is reminiscent of my father’s best years. So exciting … A fearless Welter, as my father’s contemporaries wrote witness.
I was at ringside of that “Dream Match” in December 2008 between the already Gold Medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, multi World Champion in six weight divisions, OSCAR DE LA HOYA vs MANNY PACQUAIO, and I can write that the TKO suffered by DE LA HOYA didn’t in any way detract anything from the fight that had no titles up for grabs …
Indeed from that moment, the PACQUIAO vs MAYWEATHER match began to gain interest, to make the whole world pull their necks, so that that fight was disputed and so it happened after six years of postponements and debates all over the planet, even presidents of the USA claimed they wanted the fight…
The big event materialized on May 2nd, 2015. I didn’t miss a second of that marathon of those years…And not even that ringside in Las Vegas, that Saturday night was the richest fight in boxing history, about 600 million danced!
But even earlier in 2008, he didn’t in any way detract from the fight between the Italian/British JOE CALZAGHE vs the two extraordinary Americans, BERNARD HOPKINS and ROY JONES, in the respective rings of MGM in Las Vegas and Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Cuban was had more stamina and in better physical condition. But nothing exceptional.
It’s true that the style makes the fight, and therefore training for an opponent and finding another one is different.
PACQUIAO fought as a technician, instead of the best PACQUIAO when he fought relentless and powerful jackhammer, and so he would be convincing to beat UGAS.
It was exciting to see him fight like that, so risky … and in fact the Mexican counterpuncher JM MARQUEZ, in 2012 stopped him in that tenth of a second, beating the time between one blow and another …
Last night fight it was clearly seen that UGAS suffered, he had difficulty reacting when MANNY threw fast and powerful shots, if he had continued UGAS he wouldn’t have had the upper hand.
But, PACQUIAO’s legs are not the same as they used to be.
And I haven’t seen him use his entire arsenal, I haven’t seen his usual angles and combinations and also, he hasn’t been able to adapt to UGAS style.
And so, I have to say for the first time and from a distance from the ringside, and that’s no excuse of course, but age has prevailed over the Filipino.
43 years old next December 17th, I had underlined it in my article that preceded the fight, to remember how much, so much passion remained in the heart, soul, in fists of this outclass athlete, immense champion!
I have deliberately underestimated the time, because MANNY PACQUIAO has amazed us, in all these years, fight after fight.
Dear MANNY, even when you lost you always got up and aimed even higher.
Winning or losing at this point, as it has been for all the greats in history, added nothing to your greatness; but we must accept that there is an end, even if something is left in the gloves, and now that suffocating lump in the throat that grips the multitude of fans, we all are nostalgic for a time that never comes back.
Time wins over everything. MANNY immense PACQUIAO this damned moment has arrived.
Father Time is undefeated for a reason.
Ehy… all those training sessions where you practiced incredible combinations of throwing, speed, working with gloves.
Go to the ring huh… damn!
It doesn’t go as you planned.
Your feet don’t move as they should.
And you can’t extricate yourself from that damned opponent’s punch that just five years ago you would have liquidated before the limit with a KO!
Luckily UGAS didn’t have any power in his shots, so you were able to keep him at bay with a multitude of shots so tight, double his but not accurate. And you at your golden age, so fast, brilliant, accurate, and powerful lefty!
Let it be clear that none of the contemporaries will be as immense as MANNY PACQUAIO is.
Cristal and clear, dear Champion PACQUIAO, there is nothing more to prove.
You are a LEGEND. A rare breed in boxing …
There is a persistent rumor that you will run for the presidential elections of your country, the Philippines next spring, against the current president Duterte.
I am more than aware of your great civic commitment, your philanthropic heart, extreme generosity for the poorest of your people, you have never forgotten where you come from.
You have put your hand in your wallet to help the terminally ill, the desperate of the countless floods that plague your country.
You helped out during the pandemic.
Fight corruption and human trafficking.
You may be of interest to foreign investors in the Philippines. You would be the ideal candidate for the help you have already shown to give to your people who have thus recognized the title of Senator.
Keep fighting for your people with your credibility you can do a lot, let’s not forget that the Philippines are part of the third world.
And corruption is at the highest level.
You can do much more outside of politics than inside the infernal palace … there is no fair play there like among the fighters in the ring, people who respect each other.
