CANELO ALVAREZ, 33 anni di Gualajara, Mexico è la “star” dei Pesi Super Medi, anzi superstar che ha attraversato iniziando a 15 anni – era il 2005- nel mondo dei Pro, dai Pesi Welter, poi Welter Junior, poi Pesi Medi, oggi assestato ai Super Medi. Detentore di tutte n.4 Cinture, WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, più Cintura The Ring.
Indimenticabile quando nel 2008, ben sette fratelli ALVAREZ, combatterono nella stessa sera, nello stesso ring messicano, avversari diversi certo…
JERMALL CHARLO, 33 anni di Houston, Texas è il contendente che dai pesi Super Welter, e detentore di questa categoria di tutte n.4 Cinture, WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, salito di due categorie di peso per la sfida di questa notte sul ring del T-Mobile di Las Vegas.
Conosco bene queste categorie di peso, del resto hanno sfornato eccellenze di sfide epiche. Elenco…? Ma dove inizio da Sugar Ray Robinson…no mi fermo, devo pubblicare del match di stasera. E l’elenco occuperebbe un paio di libri…
E non di meno sono cresciuta nei racconti di mio padre che ha attraversato entrambe le categorie di Peso, e sono quanto di più spettacolare, indimenticabile, l’ungherese vincitore di 3 medaglie d’oro Olimpiche, LASZLO PAPP finalmente riesce a passare Pro e imperla una serie di vittorie, ma non verso GIANCARLO GARBELLI… i film, le penne più ardite han scritto e titolato della strabiliante impresa. Altri tempi, altri uomini…
Ma ieri come oggi, velocità, potenza e resistenza sono l’essenza di questa sfida di questa notte. Nel pugilato, la testa non é mai disgiunta dai muscoli. Coordinazione indispensabile anche solo per sopravvivere alla sconfitta.
CANELO è dato per finito…CANELO ha il pelo rosso…CANELO mangia carne messicana dopata…CANELO non corrisponde ai canoni fisici ispanico-messicani. Tanta fuffa dai fans cosidetti “casual”, miseri commenti degli odiatori.
Ah no ha perso con Dmitry Bivoll! Questa è l’unica verità, CANELO ha avuto più occhi che pancia. Sfidare un Peso Massimo-Leggero, non è mai una buona idea per un naturale Peso Medio, è una sfida che non dimostra nulla, giacchè ci sono le categorie di peso…Anche io starei malissimo con un abito taglia 48, dal momento che sono perfetta taglia 42. Per dire…
L’unico e molto importante scivolone, e mi fa proprio dire: “peccato però…” e che attribuisco a CANELO è aver evitato GOLOVKIN nei suoi anni migliori. Il pesante picchiatore Kazako GGG, un gentleman della boxe, è stato come dire sopraffatto dal duro business del Pugilato.
Ma agli occhi dei fans più informati e dalle penne più colte e libere, il kazako è stato entusiasmante, temuto, il più grande Peso Medio tra 2012 e il 2020. L’inevitabile declino, oggi ha 41 anni e dopo la sconfitta subita nell’ultimo match di una trilogia vs CANELO e per l’unica volta nei Super Medi non si hanno novità. Se GGG chiude qui la sua carriera, ha dato alla boxe meravigliose, immense emozioni. E molte lezioni e di umiltà e di gran classe.
E allora come qualifico CANELO? CANELO ha tutto il pieno rispetto dovuto per ciò che un ragazzo dei bassi fondi messicani, che con resilienza e determinazione è entrato nel mondo dei Pro, ha fortificato la sua mente, e il suo fisico.
In ogni match ha imparato a gestirsi meglio per il prossimo avversario. Il suo campo di allenamento non esclude nessuna prova estrema. E sin qui ha collezionato un record di 59 match di cui 39 vinti via KO, 2 persi e 2 pari.
E il suo conto in banca se ben gestito è quanto basta alle sue prossime quattro/cinque generazioni. Adorato da grandi sponsor. È un uomo generoso, per il terremoto in Messico ha versato un milione di $ di aiuti e così per ospedali pediatrici.
Un campione che ho visto crescere, a fasi alterne mi è piaciuto e non, indubbiamente un’eccellenza tra i grandi guerrieri messicani di tutti i tempi e qui nomino alcuni tra i leggendari: Julio Caser Chavez sr, Marco Antonio Barrera, Manuel Marquez, Eric Morales.
E poi CANELO con quella mascella di cemento…e quei suoi colpi al corpo…intelligente e dalla mano pesante.
JERMELL CHARLO, Il suo record è di 35 match, 19 vinti via KO, 1 perso
Quando l’incontro fu annunciato per la prima volta, colse di sorpresa perché inizialmente Canelo doveva affrontare il fratello gemello di JERMELL, il campione dei pesi medi WBC JERMELL CHARLO.
Poi JERMALL ha annunciato che non sarebbe stato pronto per la data prevista.
Sebbene JERMELL sia fisicamente il fratello più piccolo, è considerato il miglior combattente dei due.
Il peso extra non credo che influenzerà CHARLO, perché è più alto di CANELO. CHARLO è un tiratore scelto. Ed è un cerebrale, fine calcolatore, e buon uso del jab.
E se abile potrebbe farcela a vincere sul messicano. Si dice… Ma credo che CHARLO non abbia quell’esperienza anche se ha totalizzato la metà dei match di Canelo, dunque è molto meno logorato nel fisico.
O invece Canelo è più temprato nel fisico e nella mente? Ma certo! Opto per questa seconda deduzione.
E CHARLO dunque soccombe? Il sogno che si realizza è troppo grande per non provarci sino in fondo. E dopo la rinuncia di suo fratello, finalmente il match vs CANELO è realtà.
Questo incontro, CHARLO è anni che lo chiama, lo anela più di qualsiasi altra sfida, quindi finalmente la notte del 30 settembre 2023, sta per arrivare, stanotte il match CANELO vs CHARLO si materializzerà.

CANELO ALVAREZ sconfigge nettamente JERMELL CHARLO con decisione unanime. I cartellini dei giudici: 119-108, 118-109,118-109 e mantiene le sue Cinture di titoli mondiali dei Pesi Super Medi WBA, WBC, IBF e WBO.
Non c’è stato il letterale KO o KTO ma la punizione di CANELO round dopo round è stata quella di un Campione decisamente di un altro livello. Nel settimo round CHARLO è caduto in ginocchio.
CHARLO è sopravvissuto ai 12 round più spaventato delle reazioni di CANELO e non si sono visti le sue mani incidere, lavorare, tentare qualche affondo… Nessuno oggi nella categoria dei Super Medi è in grado di sconfiggere CANELO. Ora ci aspettiamo che per il prossimo Cinco de Mayo il match CANELO vs BENAVIDEZ, due guerrieri messicani che certo daranno gran spettacolo.

But yesterday as today, speed, power, and stamina are the essence of tonight’s challenge. In boxing, the head is never separated from the muscles. Coordination is essential even just to survive defeat.
CANELO is considered finished…CANELO has red fur…CANELO eats doped Mexican meat…CANELO doesn’t correspond to Hispanic-Mexican physical standards. Lots of rubbish from the so-called “casual” fans, and miserable comments from the haters.
Ah no he lost to Dmitry Bivoll! This is the only truth, CANELO had more eyes than belly. Challenging a Light Heavyweight is never a good idea for a natural Middleweight, it’s a challenge that proves nothing since there are weight divisions… I would also look terrible in a size 48 dress since I’m a perfect size 42 (European size…). Just saying…
The only and very important mistake that makes me say: “It’s a pity though…” and which I attribute to CANELO is having avoided GOLOVKIN in his best years. The heavy puncher Kazako GGG, a gentleman of boxing, was overwhelmed by the tough business of Boxing.
But in the eyes of the most informed fans with the most cultured and free pens, the Kazakh was exciting, feared, and the greatest Middleweight between 2012 and 2020.

JERMELL CHARLO, His record is 35 matches, 19 won via KO, 1 lost
When the fight was first announced, it came as a surprise because Canelo was initially scheduled to face JERMELL’s twin brother, WBC middleweight champion JERMELL CHARLO.
Then JERMALL announced that he wouldn’t be ready by the scheduled date.
Although JERMELL is physically the younger brother, he is considered the better fighter of the two.
The extra weight I don’t think will affect CHARLO because he is taller than CANELO. CHARLO is a sharpshooter. He is cerebral, finely calculator, and good use of the jab.
And if he is skilled he could manage to win over the Mexican. It is said… But I think CHARLO doesn’t have that experience even if he has scored half of Canelo’s fights, so he is much less worn out physically.
Or is Canelo more physically and mentally hardened? Of course! I opting for this second deduction.
And CHARLO therefore succumbs? The dream that comes true is too big not to try to the end. And after his brother’s resignation, the fight vs CANELO is finally a reality.

CANELO ALVAREZ soundly defeats JERMELL CHARLO by unanimous decision. Judges’ cards: 119-108, 118-109,118-109, and retains his WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO Super Middleweight world title belts.
There was no literal KO or KTO but CANELO’s punishment round after round was that of a Champion who was definitely on another level. In the seventh round, CHARLO fell to his knees.
CHARLO survived the 12 rounds more scared than CANELO’s reactions and we didn’t see his hands letting go, working, attempting some lunges… No one today in the Super Middleweight division is capable of defeating CANELO. Now we expect the CANELO vs BENAVIDEZ match for the next Cinco de Mayo, two Mexican warriors who will certainly put on a great show.
