AFGHANISTAN così vulnerabile non ci sarà alle Paralimpiadi di Tokyo 2020

Non credo all’invincibilità dei talebani. Un esercito ben determinato Europeo, potrebbe destabilizzare definitivamente chi vuole ancora riportare al Medioevo una nazione, l’Afghanistan che ha donne, ragazze, almeno le cittadine di Kabul, negli ultimi 20 anni inserite in un contesto più normale, educate allo studio, ad esercitare le professioni.

Uomini più rispettosi. Cresciuti con la presenza di volontari che tanto han dato per l’emancipazione, tutti di diverse nazioni, inclusi noi italiani.

Ma personalmente non ho mai creduto all’imposizione della democrazia.

Infatti i talebani hanno subito imposto la Sharia.

E mi convinse già nel 2005 ancor di più un grande intellettuale, in uno dei nostri scambi, lo scrittore Premio Oscar di un grande classico per il cinema, “Fronte del Porto” Budd Schulberg, ebreo newyorchese primo editorialista di Sport Illustrated sul tema, nemmeno a dirlo…della boxe.

Perché nello sport della boxe si combatte, non si gioca. E i valori etici in ballo sono immensi. La borsa è il compenso, il merito, la conquista.

E così la conversazione con Budd va anche sulla guerra. É argomento che ho spesso intavolato con i miei interlocutori, che siano campioni o giornalisti o intellettuali in altro modo.

Un indimenticabile amico Budd Schulberg, classe 1914. Ho sempre ammirato i grandi vecchi dispensatori di illuminazione, la stessa luce che han catturato attraversando le guerre l’han tramandata nei loro racconti.

Schulberg, non comprendeva perché gli Stati Uniti volessero imporre la democrazia a quei popoli non interessati e per questo si dichiarava un democratico americano.

E così nella guerra in Iraq, vedeva già un altro Vietnam, me lo disse in uno dei nostri incontri era l’estate 2005 a South Hampton.

E così infatti si sta rilevando quanto sta succedendo in Afghanistan in questi ultimi due/tre giorni, in queste ultime ore.

Di certo mi ripeto, é il popolo che deve combattere e nessun popolo ha mai raggiunto la libertà senza che ci siano state carneficine, stragi, mattatoi, massacri, macellerie e stermini. La Storia si ripete, testimone.

La democrazia non si compra con i soldi e basta. L’America ce l’ha confermato.

Il ritiro americano, ci dice che nessuno può costruire uno Stato come gli piacerebbe fosse… se lo stesso suo popolo non combatte per sé stesso, per i suoi diritti, per la sua nazione.

Per la sua bandiera.

Sicuramente va dato atto dei tentativi, e così dei fallimenti, della grandi potenze in epoche diverse, quali Russia, Regno Unito e appunto gli USA ai giorni nostri.

Comprendo e approvo il ritiro degli USA, la vita dei soldati americani che tanto han dato per dar vita alle democrazie, è un apporto indiscutibilmente immenso; e la guerra al terrorismo dopo i 20 anni dall’attentato alle Torri Gemelle a New York, si è risolto con la cattura di Bin Laden. Tutto vero.

Ma di certo non sarà sconfitto il terrorismo islamico. Nemmeno per sogno…

In Afghanistan Il mercato delle armi e della droga sono l’unico business. Letale per la sopravvivenza di un popolo.

Facciamocene una ragione. Le conquiste costano sangue. I valori umani non hanno prezzo. Ma la corruzione in Afghanistan ha avuto la meglio su tutto.

E i talebani si sono ripresi il potere, intanto che i governanti, educati alla democrazia, corrotti scappano con il malloppo di milioni…

Solo, non approvo il modo in cui gli USA hanno abbandonato l’Afghanistan. Intendo la parte migliore degli afghani che ha creduto nella tutela americana, nei valori nobili della democrazia che i soldati americani hanno inteso esportare. Anche i nostri soldati italiani, i nostri militari. Eroi in difesa della bandiera afghana.

Più che un ritiro è apparso un abbandono…una fuga dalle responsabilità, e certo anche noi Alleati della super potenza mondiale, gli USA, non siamo stati migliori.

E così ora confido nei corridoi umanitari, si devono mettere in sicurezza i rifugiati.

Non mi addentro più di tanto, non sono una tuttologa, e vedo come tutti noi, le immagini terrificanti dai media.

AFGHANISTAN così vulnerabile non ci sarà alle Paralimpiadi di Tokyo 2020

L’Afghanistan con i suoi atleti ha partecipato alle Olimpiadi di Tokyo, ma era già successo nelle precedenti tre edizioni dal 2004, 2008, 2016.  E nella storia delle Olimpiadi estive han vinto due medaglie, nella stessa disciplina Taekwondo con due bronzi, Pechino 2008 e Londra 2012.

Non li vedremo in Italia, alle prossime Olimpiadi Invernali di Milano-Cortina 2026, non hanno mai partecipato prima, in nessuna edizione.

In questo Tokyo 2020 l’Afghanistan c’è stato con cinque atleti, quattro uomini e una donna a gareggiare in competizione in quattro discipline: Atletica, Nuoto, Taekwondo, Tiro. La bandiera, il tricolore afghano ha svettato orgoglioso nella cerimonia di apertura.

La vedremo ancora alle Olimpiadi di Parigi 2024?

E così il popolo afghano sognare di vincere in sana competizione, con i valori che lo Sport rappresenta?

Le Olimpiadi evento così globale, non perdono occasione per valorizzare i diritti umani.

E anche “solo” promuovere i diritti umani significa sostenere l’emancipazione globale di tutti noi individui e dei popoli, delle nostre culture, tradizioni e storia, ma anche dalla loro natura e differenze.

Ed è un gran dispiacere che gli Atleti Afghani non potranno partecipare alle Paralimpiadi di Tokyo 2020, dal 24 agosto-5 settembre prossimi.

Come potrebbero anche solo pensare di volare…? Dopo la prima partecipazione di un uomo ai Giochi Paralimpiadi nel 2016 a Rio, questa sarebbe stata la prima volta per una donna, proprio nel para-taekwondo, esordio anche per questa disciplina.

Speriamo che gli atleti afghani siano presenti ai prossimi Giochi Olimpici di Parigi 2024.

Pierre de Coubertin, l’aristocratico francese sostenne la rinascita dei Giochi Olimpici dell’Era Moderna quale modo per avvicinare le nazioni, di permettere ai giovani del mondo di confrontarsi in una competizione sportiva, piuttosto che in guerra.

Una sana utopia, un ideale a cui credere fa bene.

AFGHANISTAN so vulnerable will not be at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics

I don’t believe in the invincibility of the Taliban. A well-determined European army could definitively destabilize those who still want to bring a nation back to the Middle Ages, Afghanistan that has women, girls, at least the one in Kabul, in the last 20 years placed in a more normal context, educated and  exercising the professions.

More respectful men. Grew up with the presence of volunteers who have given so much for emancipation, all from different nations, including us Italians.

But personally I have never believed in the imposition of democracy.

In fact, the Taliban immediately has imposed the Sharia.

And already back in 2005 has convinced me even more a great intellectual, in one of our exchanges, the Oscar-winning writer of a great classic for cinema, “On The Waterfront” Budd Schulberg, Jewish New Yorker, first columnist for Sport Illustrated on the subject, not even to say it … of boxing.

In the sport of boxing you fight, you don’t play. So, the ethical values ​​at stake are immense. And certainly the purse is the reward, the merit, the conquest.

And then the conversation with Budd also goes on the war. It’s a topic that I have often brought with my interlocutors, whether they are champions or journalists or intellectuals in any other way.

An unforgettable friend Budd Schulberg, born in 1914. I have always admired the great old dispensers of enlightenment, the same light they have captured through wars they have handed down in their stories.

Schulberg didn’t understand why the United States wanted to impose democracy on those uninterested peoples and for this he declared himself an American Democrat.

And so in the Iraq war, he already saw another Vietnam, he told me in one of our visit, it was summer 2005 in South Hampton, NY.

And so, in fact, what is happening in Afghanistan in the last two/three days, in these last hours, is being revealed.

Certainly I repeat to myself, it’s the people who must fight and no people has ever achieved freedom without there having been slaughters, massacres, butchers and exterminations. History repeats itself, witness.

Democracy isn’t bought with money and that’s it. USA has confirmed.

The American withdrawal tells us that no one can build a State as it would like it to be … if his own people don’t fight for themselves, for its rights, for its Nation.

For its flag.

Certainly we must acknowledge the attempts, and thus the failures, of the great powers in different eras, such as Russia, the United Kingdom and the USA today.

I understand and approve of the US withdrawal, the life of the American soldiers who have given so much to give life to democracies, is an indisputably immense contribution; and the war on terrorism after 20 years since the attack on the Twin Towers in New York, was resolved with the capture of Bin Laden. All true.

But Islamic terrorism will certainly not be defeated. Not a chance…

Because in Afghanistan, the arms and drugs market are the only business. Lethal to surviving of a people.

Let’s face it. Conquests cost blood. Human values ​​are priceless. But corruption in Afghanistan got the better of everything.

And the Taliban have taken back their power, while the rulers government, educated to democracy, corrupt run away with the swag of millions …

But, I just don’t approve of the way the US left Afghanistan. I mean the best part of the Afghans who believed in American tutelage, in the noble values ​​of democracy that American soldiers intended to export. Even our Italian soldiers, our military. Heroes in defense of the Afghan flag.

More than a withdrawal, it appeared an abandonment … an escape from responsibilities, and certainly we Allies of the world superpower, the USA, have not been better.

I trust in the humanitarian corridors, refugees must be secured.

I don’t go into that much, I’m not omniscient and I see, like all of us, the terrifying images from the media.

Afghanistan with its athletes participated in the Tokyo Olympics, but it had already happened in the previous three editions from 2004, 2008, 2016. And in the history of the Summer Olympics, Afghanistan  have won two medals, in the same Taekwondo discipline,  with two bronzes, Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

We will not see them in Italy, at the next Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina 2026, they have never participated before, in any edition.

In this Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Afghanistan was there with five athletes, four men and one woman competing in four disciplines: Athletics, Swimming, Taekwondo, Shooting. The flag, the Afghan tricolor, soared proudly in the opening ceremony.

Will we see it again at the Paris 2024 Olympics Games?

And the Afghan people dreaming of winning in healthy competition, with the values ​​that sport represents?

The Olympics, event so global, don’t miss the opportunity to enhance human rights.

And “only” promoting human rights means supporting the global emancipation of all of us individuals and peoples, our cultures, traditions and history, but also of their nature and differences.

And it’s a great regret that Afghan athletes will not be able to participate in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, next August 24th -September 5th.

How could they even think about flying …? After a man’s first participation in the 2016 Paralympics Games in Rio, this would have been the first time for a woman, in the para-taekwondo, also a debut of this discipline.

Let’s hope that Afghan athletes will be present at the next Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Pierre de Coubertin, the French aristocrat who advocated the rebirth of the Olympic Games of the Modern Era as a way to bring nations together, to allow the world’s youth to compete in sporting competition rather than war.

A healthy utopia, an ideal to believe in is good for all of us.
